2017’s new iPhones are in touching distance
The Wall Street Journal reports that, “according to people briefed on its plans,” Apple’s next big event will take place on September 12. That’s just two weeks away at the time of writing!
The date is yet to be announced by Apple itself, but it looks like just a matter of time until we see official confirmation. It’s rumored that this could be the first event hosted in the Steve Jobs Theater of Apple’s new campus.
Apple’s September events are its biggest of the year and are well known for launching the latest iPhones. This year, we’re expecting to see Apple unveil a brand new premium design, likely to be called the iPhone 8, and two iterative upgrades, likely to be called the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
It’s also thought that Apple could reveal a new Apple Watch and an upgrade to the Apple TV at the same event. iPad news is unlikely, though, after a fairly recent refresh to the lineup.
Based on previous years, Apple tends to announce its new devices at a big event and make them available to purchase a week or two later. iOS 11 will also be made available to the public shortly after the event.
There have been rumors of manufacturing issues this year, so we might see the iPhone 8 in short supply for its first couple of months on the market. Your best shot to pick one up on release day is to stay tuned for information on the pre-order window and get in quick when it opens.
We’ll bring you coverage of all the major announcements next month, plus advice on how to choose which model of iPhone to get if you decide to upgrade. We’ve also got a huge update with new tips for iOS 11 coming soon, so stick around!
