Rumors Roadmap: what is Apple planning over the next year?

  • by

As Apple’s big September event starts drifting out of focus in the rear view mirror, we’re starting to see an influx of rumors about what’s next. The company is widely expected to launch more product upgrades before the year is out, with some big swings rumored for 2025.

Let’s have quick rundown of the top stories about Apple’s plans over the next 12 months.

October event

We already know from Bloomberg’s iPhone 16 event coverage that Apple is expected to host another event some time in October. More specifically, analyst Mark Gurman suggested Apple is working on an upgraded iPad mini to launch alongside a suite of M4-powered Macs. If that includes a new Mac mini, we could be looking at the computing bargain of the decade.

Apple Vision 2

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (as reported by MacRumors) claims a second-generation Vision Pro is in the works for the second half of 2025. The upgrade will allow Vision Pro users to embrace Apple Intelligence thanks to a powerful M5 chip that doesn’t exist yet. The rest of the design will likely stay the same, as will the cost – although this conflicts with other reports we’ve seen about a possible lower-priced “Vision Air.” Time will tell.

Brand new products

We’re also seeing reports that Apple has some new stuff in the works, like a smart display that will run a new operating system called homeOS. This could be anything from a HomePod with a screen to a “robotic smart display,” according to Yahoo! Tech.

A new Apple TV?

9to5Mac reports that we could be waiting a bit longer for an update to the Apple TV line, although we anticipate a big jump when it does come. It will be interesting to see which way Apple takes the product: it could make it considerably cheaper to better compete with other streaming device, or beef up the processor enough that it can run Apple Intelligence and play console-quality games. Or maybe both? Either way, don’t expect to see it this year.
