iPhone 14 launch event tipped
According to a new tip, Apple will announce the iPhone 14 family on September 13. Over on iDropNews, LeaksApplePro claims that this will be the date that Apple holds its biggest event of the year. They also claim that Apple could have the AirPods Pro 2 and as many as three Apple Watch wearables to show off at the event. Whether these extras are included or not could come down to whether Apple chooses to return to in-person events, which isn’t yet known.
Foldable iPhone could have E-Ink display
Apple is rumored to be testing out a color E-Ink displays for its much-discussed foldable iPhone. That’s according to famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, at any rate. Kuo tweeted that “Apple is testing E Ink’s Electronic Paper Display (EPD) for future foldable device’s cover screen & tablet-like applications”. This energy-saving component would be for the foldable’s secondary or external display, leaving the main internal display to use a more vibrant (and power-hungry) panel technology like OLED.
iPhone 15 might drop Lightning
There has been much discussion over the years over Apple’s continuing use the proprietary Lightning port on its smartphones. Lightning is categorically inferior to USB-C in terms of potential charging and data transfer speeds. There’s a reason Apple has already adopted USB-C for its iPad and Mac families. According to Ming-Chi Kuo (yes, him again), Apple will finally make the final switch to USB-C for smartphone range with the iPhone 15 in 2023.
Apple previews iOS 16 accessibility additions
You can bet your bottom dollar that Apple will be offering a full unveiling of iOS 16 at its WWDC event in early June, but it offered a sneak preview of a few of those features in honor of Global Accessibility Awareness Day. Door Detection will enable blind and partially sighted users to locate a door, as well as helping with the handle type. Apple Watch Mirroring will enable Watch users to set-up and control their watch from their iPhone, and Live Captions will caption audio content in real time.
