Tim Cook doesn’t care about Android’s RCS problem
Asked about the issue that sees Android phones suffering in message interchanges with iPhones – think low quality video and picture messages, no read receipts, faltering Wi-Fi messaging and more – Apple CEO Tim Cook gave a somewhat dismissive response. “I don’t hear our users asking that we put a lot of energy in on that at this point,” he said. He also encouraged the questioner to “buy your mom an iPhone” so that she can receive their videos properly. Ouch.
Steve Jobs Archive offers tribute to Apple founder
Laurene Powell Jobs, Jony Ive, and Tim Cook have announced the Steve Jobs Archive. Initially taking the form of a simple (but stylish) website filled with inspirational quotes and recorded snippets from the great Apple founder himself, it will also apparently offer people “the tools and opportunities to make their own contribution,” and will build “programs, fellowships, collections, and partnerships that reflect Steve’s values and carry his sense of possibility forward.” We have no idea what that any of that means, but the website’s nice.
Apple hikes iPhone prices around the world
If you’re reading this in the US, you might be planning your next iPhone purchase safe in the knowledge that Apple has kept its prices largely consistent with the announcement of the iPhone 14 line. Others in the world aren’t so lucky. UK customers, in particular, are facing a £150 ($173) hike from the iPhone 13 Pro to the iPhone 14 Pro. Even older iPhones are affected, with the iPhone SE quietly getting a £30 ($35) price bump following Apple’s big event. You can probably blame inflation and currency fluctuations, but Apple hasn’t commented as yet.
Apple punished for selling phones without chargers in Brazil
Brazil’s court has ruled that Apple can no longer sell any iPhones in the country if they don’t come bundled with a wall charger. Apple has also been fined 12.2 million Brazilian reals (about $2.3 million) for “selling the smartphones, since the iPhone 12, without the respective power charger for wall socket.” Brazilian legislators were unmoved by Apple’s assertion that this was an eco-friendly decision, arguing that it “ended up transferring the entire burden to the consumer”. Apple has been threatened with more serious punishments if it persists with its infractions.
