New Macs are here! Latest MacBook Air, Mac Studio, Mac Pro now available

It’s taken a few years, but Apple has finally transitioned every type of Mac on its books to Apple silicon, meaning the entire lineup now runs on M1 and M2 processing chips. And all three models unveiled at WWDC23 are now available.

That includes a new 15-inch MacBook Air Apple is calling “the world’s best 15-inch laptop,” and new versions of the high-end Mac Studio and super-high-end Mac Pro. Users who pre-ordered right after the announcement should receive the new models today, while new customers can now pick up these computers online or in person at an Apple Store with immediate availability.

The 15-inch MacBook Air comes with an M2 processing chip, and if you’re upgrading from an older model with an Intel chip you can expect up to 12x faster performance. This latest model also boasts up to 18 hours of battery life and an improved six-speaker sound system.

The new MacBook Air starts at $1,299/£1,399, while the 13-inch model drops to $1,099/£1,149 and the older 13-inch with M1 is now $999/£999.

Meanwhile, those with more advanced needs will be pleased to see the latest Mac Studio and Mac Pro both offer an impressive M2 Ultra chip. Mac Studio can be specced up to 192GB of unified memory for really high-performance tasks, while Mac Pro is the only Mac to offer the PCI expansion capabilities some industry pros rely on for advanced uses.

Mac Studio’s baseline model is $1,999/£2,099, although upgrading it to the specs mentioned above nearly triples the price, and that’s not even all the available upgrades.

For those with that kind of money to spend on a computer, Mac Pro might be the better option – starting at $6,999/£7,199 and maxing out at almost double that. (Adding wheels alone costs $400!)

With all that considered, the new MacBook Air feels like an absolute bargain. And it’s more than powerful enough for the average user. More details on the latest models can be found here, and everything can be ordered and customized at apple.com.
