iOS 17.6 is here with important bug fixes and ‘catch up’ for sports TV

Apple has released iOS 17.6 and iPadOS 17.6, likely to be the final major update before iOS 18 drops in September.

There aren’t many new features in iOS 17.6, with most of the changes addressing minor bugs and improving performance. Still, it’s a good idea to stay up to date to ensure coverage against the latest security vulnerabilities, if nothing else.

Catch Up

There is one new feature buried in this latest update, however. Sports fans will be pleased to see the addition of ‘Catch Up’ in the TV app, which shows viewers an interactive highlights reel to bring them up to speed if they join a live game partway through.

Currently, Catch Up is only available for soccer highlights as part of its MLS Season Pass, but Apple will be looking to expand its coverage before long.

How to get iOS 17.6

Note that even with Automatic Updates switched on in Settings, it’s often faster to manually trigger the update process. Go to Settings > General > Software Update to check for the latest version of iOS, and App Store > Account to see which apps are due an update.
