Apple is offering free AirPods as part of a Back to School promotion from now until late September, available to students and teachers.
The headphones will be available with any eligible iPad or Mac purchase. That boils down to the latest iterations of MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac Pro, iPad Pro, or iPad Air.
AirPods aren’t exactly cheap, making this an excellent time to grab an iPad or Mac. Buyers can add a Wireless Charging Case for an additional $40, or upgrade to AirPods Pro for $90.
The deal applies to anyone who qualifies for Apple’s education pricing – typically, that’s current and prospective students, plus school staff and teachers of all grades. Customers will have to prove eligibility to Apple to unlock the education pricing. Those who qualify can also get 20% off AppleCare+ protection.

If you or anyone you know fits the bill it’s probably worth telling them about this offer, which is available until school restarts in the Fall. The iPad Air in particular, at $549, represents the best value way to grab a set of AirPods.
Unfortunately, this particular scheme is only running in the US and Canada, although similar Education discounts are available around the world. We’d expect the UK to get its own version of the “back to school” sale later this Summer.
