With the iPhone 7 announcement imminent, you’d be forgiven for forgetting about Apple’s other core products. But according to a report from Bloomberg, we’re due some new Macs before the end of the year as well as updated features for the iPad Pro early in 2017.
First off, we may see something this year that’s been a long time coming: a new Thunderbolt Display, with the same huge 5k resolution as high-end iMacs and an integrated graphics card. Perfect for intensive video editing, and also good news for those who have been dutifully waiting since 2011 for an updated Apple display.
Mac-wise, we’re likely to see a refresh of the lineup announced in October some time. That means new MacBook Airs, complete with the USB-C ports seen in the 12-inch MacBook. It also means new iMacs with improved specifications. Neither of these lines are expected to boast huge changes, but those in the market for a Mac might want to hold off for a month or two in order to grab an improved machine.
Meanwhile, the MacBook Pro is said to be due a slightly more exciting upgrade, including an OLED touch bar above the keyboard, taking the place of the regular function keys. It will offer dynamic shortcuts, information and functions for different apps, and will of course accompany some behind-the-scenes spec upgrades as well.
Finally, the report says to expect a faster, more responsive iPad Pro early next year, as well as a new 10.5-inch model to sit between the two sizes currently available. We could also see more varied uses for the Apple Pencil, including annotation functions in multiple different apps.
Of course, none of this is officially confirmed yet – but whatever happens, it looks as though we have plenty of stuff to look forward to even after the iPhone 7 is unveiled!
