Reports have surfaced suggesting Apple is on the verge of announcing a significant event in March where it will announce a major upgrade to its iPad range, plus some updates to its current iPhone line.
It’s believed that Apple’s iPad Pro range will update and expand, with a 7.9-inch model adopting the ‘Pro’ moniker, while the existing 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch will reach a second generation. Most interesting, is that a new 10.5-inch model will ship. This model will look different to the others, foreshadowing a split in design that we’re likely to see again with the iPhone 8 later this year.
This new 10.5-inch iPad will be free of bezels and contain no Home button, but it will be roughly the same size as the existing 9.7-inch iPad. The additional screen space is accessed through the edge-to-edge screen. In more detail, the top bezel will remain the same, housing the Facetime camera, while the bottom bezel will reduce in size.

Apple’s range of iPhones will also receive some minor updates. First, the iPhone SE which was unveiled at an event around the same time in 2016, will gain a 128GB storage model, joining a 16GB and 64GB models. The iPhone SE contains a similar design to Apple’s iPhone 5 and 5s, which come with a 4-inch screen, but with an internal spec-bump matching the iPhone 6.
Finally, it’s believed Apple will introduce another new color to its current iPhone 7 range – a bright red option. Apple Watch users can also expect to gain further choice in bands.
This isn’t the first time Apple has sprung an event in March. Last year they announced a March 21 event eleven days prior, so expect Apple to confirm the occasion in the next few weeks.
