Apple’s free video editing app, iMovie, got even better this week with the release of version 3.0 for iPhone and iPhone – and with it, several new features.
Most notably, that includes Magic Movie, a feature designed to help users make amazing custom videos in an instant. It’s like a mix between the auto-generated Memories in the Photos app and the now-defunct montage-maker Quik – but much more customizable.
Select a group of photos and/or videos and Magic Movie will try to figure out the most compelling parts and edit them into a slick video project complete with transitions and music. It’s easy for users to adjust those details to their liking, and rearrange or re-edit the chosen clips too.
The other big feature is Storyboards, which offer an amazing way for video editing beginners to learn the basics of good editing, with handy tips and preset shot lists to aid the process. This should be especially useful to any creators with dreams of making professional-looking videos for sharing online.

iMovie 3.0 is available right now from the App Store. It’s completely free, but you will need to be running iOS 15.2 or higher to use it.
