Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.
App of the Week
Navi [Free]
Navi supplies real time transcription (aka subtitles) and translation of more than 20 languages for your FaceTime calls. It’s a handy tool for those who find themselves communicating with people who speak other languages, or for anyone with a hearing impairment. You’ll need to go through a slightly convoluted process when setting the app up for a new caller, but given that it’s such a specialist tool, it could very well prove to be worth the extra effort.
Game of the Week
Mimelet [Free]
It might look like just another a cutesy platformer, but Mimelet does something slightly different with the format. Essentially distilling the Metroidvania sub-genre into a more mobile-ready format, it sees you taking on enemy powers to bypass obstacles. In the process, Mimelet turns from a simple side-scrolling head-bopper into a surprisingly thoughtful puzzler. It’s from the developer behind Super Cat Tales, Lost Yeti, and Yokai Dungeon, so we should have expected such clever cuteness.
App Store Classic
Productive [$6.99/£6.49 per month]
It’s the New Year, and with a holiday period filled with excess behind us, there’s never been a better time to shake a few of those bad habits. Productive is one of the best habit trackers on the App Store – and certainly the most stylish. Set personal goals, keep an eye on those harmful (or just plain annoying) habits, and allow the app to guide you through challenges to help you reach your self-betterment targets. There’s a free tier with limited habits and features if you want to check it out.
