With the next generation of iPhones launching next month, the rumor mill is understandably in overdrive. This week, we’ve seen leaked photos from case manufacturers suggesting the top-end iPhone 15 will dispense of the mute switch in favor of a multi-function Action button.
These photos come from a leaker by the name of Majin Bu, who has a decent track record.
We’ve been talking about the possibility of an iPhone 15 Ultra since January, a new premium device that could offer exclusive features like a periscope camera and unique design language. But even if the ‘Ultra’ naming – first used in the Apple Watch Ultra – doesn’t come into play, Apple likes to differentiate its Pro models with new features and that’s where an Action button could fit.
Apple Watch Ultra features a striking orange Action button that can be customized to perform different functions, offering more personalization than we’re used to seeing from an Apple device. We wrote last year that an Action button could do wonders for iPhone, and if these latest leaks are to be believed, it’s the mute switch that would make way for such an addition.
As ever, take these rumors with a pinch of salt – until we get official confirmation from Apple at its September event, we won’t know exactly how the new iPhones will look. But over the past few years, Apple has struggled to keep changes like this a secret in the weeks approaching a device launch, so we could be looking at something legit.
Speaking of Apple’s upcoming iPhone event, if previous years are anything to go by you can expect the new models to be unveiled on September 12/13, with availability starting the following Friday, September 22.
