We’ve been flush with iPhone rumors for weeks, maybe even months now. But what about iOS 11? Little has been said about the forthcoming refresh of the iPhone and iPad’s operating system, but in a new concept video, we gain an exciting, albeit predictive look at what might be announced later this year.
The imagery has been made by Jacek Zięba and demonstrates how Apple might implement a number of previously rumored features like dark mode, group FaceTime calling and a split screen app view for smaller devices which currently features on the iPad, but is not available to iPhone users.
Guide: How to enable a sort of Dark Mode in iOS
The idea behind a dark mode is that it’ll give users the option to implement a darker shade, system-wide. This will mean at night, or in the cinema, or somewhere where the light is low, the device won’t be so distracting to others, or as harsh on the user’s eyes. Considering Apple will be pushing out a Theater Mode to the Apple Watch in its next update, it might turn its attention to dark mode next.
The video also shows multiple user accounts – for devices that more than one individual uses. An interesting concept, if unlikely to arrive on iPhones. On iPads, however, it might be more likely. It’s currently implemented on iPads specifically provided for the classroom through an education-specific version of iOS 10.
There’s plenty of other tweaks to the UI and feature set so it’s well worth taking a quick look below.
iOS 11 is expected to be unveiled at Apple’s WWDC event in June, with a full launch alongside an iPhone 7s and 7s Plus. Apple’s expected ‘iPhone Edition’ is now unlikely to launch until much later. (Read: iPhone Edition to launch after iPhone 7s)
Finally, we’ve also posted a few new concept images for the forthcoming OLED iPhone which gives the best idea yet of what a curved iPhone screen, and function area might look like.
